Overview
Porting lets you keep your existing phone numbers when you move to Conquer Voice, so callers and contacts don't need to learn a new number. Your current carrier releases the number, and we activate it on our platform on an agreed date. Most of the process happens between us and your current carrier — your part is mainly providing accurate account information up front.
Information We'll Need From You
Please gather the following from your current carrier before reaching out to start a port. Having this ready from the start is the single best way to avoid delays.
- Account holder's name, exactly as it appears on your bill with your current carrier.
- Full service address tied to the account (street, suite, city, state, and ZIP), exactly as your carrier has it on file.
- Account number with your current carrier.
- Port-out PIN or passcode from your carrier. Note: some carriers issue a separate PIN for each phone number rather than one PIN for the whole account. If that's the case for you, let us know and we'll plan the port accordingly.
- Name of the person authorized to release the numbers on your account.
- Complete list of the numbers to port, confirmed directly against your carrier's active account. We recommend pulling this list from your carrier rather than from internal records, since internal lists can miss numbers or include ones that are no longer active.
- Confirmation that all numbers belong to a single account. If your numbers are split across multiple accounts with your carrier, each account will need a separate port request.
- Requested port date. We need at least 24 hours' notice once all of the above is in hand. Many carriers can complete a port in as little as 1–3 business days, so let us know if you're working against a deadline.
If any of your numbers are only being partially ported off an account, we may also need your current Billing Telephone Number (BTN), a new BTN, or instructions to disconnect the remaining lines.
Timeline and What to Expect
- You provide the account and number information above.
- We check each number for portability and submit the port request to your current carrier.
- Your carrier confirms a Firm Order Commitment (FOC) date — the date your numbers will actually move.
- We configure the numbers on your Conquer account ahead of the port date so they're ready to use as soon as the port completes.
- On the FOC date, your numbers go live on Conquer Voice.
Note: Once a port request has been submitted, we're unable to add additional numbers to it. If you think of more numbers after submitting, we'll need to start a new request for them.
Common Reasons a Port Gets Delayed
Knowing these ahead of time can help you avoid the most common holdups:
- Address or ZIP code mismatch — this is the most common reason a port gets rejected. If you're not certain the address you have matches what your carrier has on file, ask your carrier for a Customer Service Record (CSR) so we can use their exact information.
- Numbers split across multiple accounts — if your carrier has your numbers on more than one account, confirm this with them before submitting, since each account requires its own port request.
- Numbers that won't validate — occasionally a carrier can't confirm a number belongs to your account even when you're sure it does. This has to be resolved directly with your current carrier before the port can proceed.
- Inactive or disconnected numbers — a number that's already been deactivated or is on a closed account will be rejected and may require your carrier to manually intervene.
After Your Numbers Port
Once your numbers have ported, let us know if you'd also like text messaging enabled on them — this is a separate step from the voice port. If you ever port a number back out to another provider in the future, please let us know so we can remove it from your account.
If you have any questions during the process, reach out to your Customer Success Manager or our Support team.
